Lindisfarne College Take Home Unison Challenge Shield
Monday 25 August
Lindisfarne College won the Unison Secondary School Rugby Challenge Shield on Friday, squashing Central Hawke’s Bay (CHB) College’s hopes for a hat trick victory.
Played as the curtain raiser to the Magpies vs Taranaki home game, Lindisfarne came away with a 26 – 16 win against two-time champions, CHB.
Lindisfarne 2nd XV Coach, [insert name], said the win was well deserved by the team.
“Having remained undefeated throughout the season, winning the Shield was the ultimate goal.
“They have had a solid season, playing some really high level rugby so it was great to see them finish on a high.”
CHB, while disappointed with the result, certainly reminded the crowd why they have consistently made the final in the last three years.
“The boys have played out of their skin all season. They had really hoped to make it three wins in a row, but they still did themselves proud and you can’t ask for more than that.
“Their hard fought effort and attitude on the field was testament to their sportsmanship.”
The Challenge Shield is part of Unison’s sponsorship with the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union, and an extension of its junior rugby programme.
“It is great to see a Hawke’s Bay Company, like Unison, so involved in the Community. Their ongoing support certainly doesn’t go unnoticed,” said Mr Goodger.
In presenting the Shield on behalf of the Unison Group, Customer Relations Manager, Danny Gough, said Unison was proud to support the regions’ rising rugby stars.
“It is really pleasing for us to support local rugby at this level, and be here to watch what is, evidently, the pinnacle event of the season for these young men.
“Our future All Blacks start here, at the grass roots level. Based on the talent and passion we saw on the field on Friday night, New Zealand is positioned well to remain on top in the years to come.”
In addition to the shield, Mr Gough also presented each player of the winning team with a medal and a $500 R80 Sports Voucher for Lindisfarne College, while CHB College received a $250 Kooga Voucher.
