New Netball Central Zone Chair Ensures Continuity

Netball Central Zone and Haier Pulse Chairman Ian Collier is passing on the baton to board member Sue Gordon, but will remain on the board until the beginning of June.

“The amount of travel in my role with Air New Zealand has steadily increased and this is now having a significant impact on my ability to remain on the NCZ board,” explained Collier. “Stepping down has been a difficult but necessary decision to make in the best interests of the Zone.”

“Sue steps into the chair having deputised for the Zone over the last year and she was also on the previous Pulse board. She has an excellent understanding of the business and community-based requirements of the organisation and will ensure that the Zone continues to build on its strong foundations. The board had no hesitation in nominating Sue for the chair position, which was very pleasing and reassuring from my perspective.

“We are moving out of the initial 18-month transition phase and the board will now focus on delivering our long-term strategic goals.

“I am proud of where the Zone is heading and will continue my involvement with the organisation after June in an advisory role,” added Collier.

Incoming Chair Sue Gordon has a life-long passion and involvement with netball at both grassroots and high performance levels. She is an experienced General Manager who has worked in both the public and private sectors and is looking forward to the challenge of building on the work that has been achieved since the inception of the Zone in 2012.

“Ian has been the driving force behind the set-up and transition of the Netball Central Zone,” she said. “He has brought cohesion and stability to the organisation during a time of major change and my role is to ensure we build on his good work of the last few years.

“Having served on the board under Ian’s leadership, I am able to bring the continuity we need to keep moving in the right direction. It will be business as usual as we focus on delivering the key outcomes of our strategic plan over the next two years,” she concluded.
