Nominations for 2013 UK New Zealander of the Year Award now open

The New Zealand Society (in association with our kind sponsors, Air New Zealand) is now seeking nominations for the UK New Zealander of the Year Award 2013.

The UK New Zealander of the Year Award is recognised as one of the most prestigious honours within the New Zealand community in the United Kingdom. This annual award recognises and celebrates the person who has made the most outstanding personal contribution in the UK to promoting the interests of New Zealand or New Zealanders, whether in public life, by charitable work, or achievement in the arts, sport or academia.

Last year’s winner was Kent Gardner, for his extraordinary efforts in raising much-needed money for people of Canterbury following the devastating earthquakes there in September 2010 and February 2011. Other past winners include Terry Smith, Anna Hansen, Esther Jessop, Ian Conrich, Tom & Susan Glynn, Peter Leslie, Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, The Rt Hon Don McKinnon, Michael Campbell, the late Harry Mahon, Mark Todd and Peter Gordon.

Nominees must be either New Zealand or British citizens and have resided in the UK for at least the past two (2) years), and may not include previous winners.

Nominations are open until midnight GMT on Friday, 30 November 2012 and the judging will take place in December 2012 by a panel including the President of the New Zealand Society, The New Zealand High Commissioner in the UK, the European Regional Manager of Air New Zealand, a past winner of the Award and a prominent member of the New Zealand community in the UK.

The judging panel will determine the winner of the Award, and the three (3) finalists (being the winner and the two runners up) will each be invited to attend the New Zealand Society Waitangi Day Charity Ball to be held in The Ballroom at The Dorchester Hotel in London on Friday, 8th February 2013. The winner will be announced at the Dinner, and will have the right to be recognised as the UK New Zealander of the Year 2013. This person will receive return flights for two (2) from the UK to New Zealand, courtesy of Air New Zealand.

Those who make nominations may choose to enter the New Zealand Society Prize Draw which could result in winning two (2) free tickets to any New Zealand Society event of the winner's choosing from March through November 2013.

The Promotion is subject to the terms and conditions which are available on the www.nzsociety.co.uk website.
