Winter Games Adventure Film Festival Tickets On
Sale
LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (July 19, 2012) – The Winter Games Adventure Film Festival brings a three-day action-packed programme of adventurous sport and lifestyle movies to the big screen in Queenstown, next month. Tickets are now on sale.
Festival goers will be treated to a diverse mix of films from snowboarding meccas and arctic canoe journeys, to aeronautical action and inspirational ultra-marathon runners and mountain bikers. The films from across the globe feature exciting, scenic and entertaining stories and will appeal to budding thrill seekers and armchair adventurers.
Each two and a half hour session will screen a variety of films with some including guest speakers; Red Bull athletes Chuck Berry and Ben Brown will introduce their films at the Friday and Saturday evening sessions.
The Winter Games Adventure Film Festival also includes a short film and a photography competition. With the theme 'An Obsession for Adventure', the film competition is open to films between 5 and 15 minutes long, all films selected as finalists will be screened at the Film Festival.
The photography competition, new for 2012, follows the theme 'Southern Lakes Adventure'. Images must be captured within the Southern Lakes area and fall into one of the four categories: rock, snow/ice, water and sky. Winning entries will be displayed on the big screen at the beginning of each session.
Festival manager Malcolm Blakey is impressed with the entries received to date. “A good number of entries have been received so far and the talent on display is superb,” he said. This year’s Winter Games Adventure Film Festival will provide a feast of adventure. Film viewers will witness extraordinary physical and mental challenges faced, as well as visit some truly remarkable places in the world."
The Winter Games Adventure Film Festival runs alongside World Cup snow sports action. The FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Ski Halfpipe World Cups takes place at Cardrona Alpine Resort from 21-26 August.
Winners of the film and photography competitions will each win mountain bike season passes for Skyline Gondola and vouchers for new film and photography equipment. Entries are open until the end of July.
The Winter Games Adventure Film Festival runs from 24-26 August at the Reading Cinema, Queenstown. Tickets can be purchased from Reading Cinema, cash only, or on the website, credit card only, from Thursday (19 July). They cost $15 for the matinee sessions and $20 for the evening sessions. The film sessions start at 8pm each night of the festival with matinees (3pm) on the Friday and Saturday.
