New Seats on Sale for 2012 Writers & Readers Festival   1 May 2012

Heavy demand for next week’s 2012 Auckland Writers & Readers Festival has seen Aotea Centre venue capacity increased for this exceptional cultural event.

Hot-selling Saturday sessions The God Matter, with cosmologist Lawrence Krauss and theologian Lloyd Geering, and The Future of the Novel, with Pulitzer prizewinner Jeffrey Eugenides and local novelist Emily Perkins, have had seats added, while the ‘sold out’ sign has gone up on workshops with National Book Prize winner Jesmyn Ward and New Zealand’s Dame Fiona Kidman.

Other sessions in particularly high demand include An Evening with Roddy Doyle and the NZ Listener Gala Night, both at the Aotea Centre, and New Zealand artist Dick Frizzell’s session It’s All About The Image at the Auckland Art Gallery.

The 9-10 May schools’ programme has also attracted record numbers with attendees at some sessions numbering more than 1000.

With more than seventy public events over three days and nights in the heart of Auckland, from 10-13 May, the 2012 Auckland Writers & Readers Festival is shaping up as the most successful yet, expected to attract more than 31,000 attendances across its full programme.

The annual Auckland Writers & Readers Festival is one of this country’s major cultural events celebrating books and ideas with a growing national audience. This year’s programme showcases 23 international writers alongside more than 90 New Zealanders in sessions focussed on everything from fine fiction to popular reads, poetry and spoken word performance, science, history, religion and biography, food and wine, film, art, music and fashion.

Earlybird ticket prices remain in place until 9.00am May 9 and, with seats selling fast, Auckland audiences are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment. Ticket prices from as low as $15.
