ONE’s THE ITM FISHING SHOW MARKS ITS 250TH EPISODE
WITH A MOVE TO FULL HOUR EPISODES!
It’s been a big year for The ITM Fishing Show, taking out the TV Guide Viewers Choice Awards in both Best Sports Show and the Overall Favorite Show, it’s moved to TV ONE on a multi-year deal, and on August 2nd it will reach the milestone of 250 episodes. But the big news for fans is that the show will now be a full hour long every Saturday.
For years fans have been writing, posting, tweeting even petitioning to see their favorite show get a full hour slot, and just weeks into the new broadcast deal it seems that TVNZ agrees the show will work in the longer format.
TVNZ Head of Content Jeff Latch says ‘We are delighted with the opportunity to double the weekly dose of The ITM Fishing Show to our viewers. New Zealanders are very at home in the outdoors and with over 1 million kiwis fishing every year TV ONE has recognised that this high quality local production is tailor-made for showcasing the sport and our country’.
The ITM Fishing Show front-man Matt Watson is ‘stoked’ with the opportunity, and is looking forward to show viewers what they’ve been missing out on.
‘One of the toughest things we face when producing the show is what we have to leave out. I’m gutted when we have to cut some great action, or something hard case that happens, but the best thing about a full hour is that it allows us to give a little more insight into the characters and places we visit, so we can now tell the whole story, and share a little more of the tips and techniques too’.
So what has The ITM Fishing Show got coming to keep us enthralled for a full hour? One of the hours we’ve been teased with already, when Matt attempts to catch a giant swordfish on a handline from his little boat, it ends up in a chilling encounter with a huge mako shark, a snippet of this footage was released on to Youtube and instantly went viral making news all around the world.

It’s not often you see Matt visibly shaken, but this was a pretty incredible encounter to be caught on film and Matt reckons that this was just a snippet of one of the most epic days he’s ever experienced while filming.
And of course all viewers can expect to see the exciting new locations from around New Zealand and the world, as even after 250 episodes Matt is still uncovering new adventures.
Americas Cup Skippers Dean Barker and Jimmy Spithill are set to duke it out once more.
Hour long episodes start Saturday August 2nd 5pm TV ONE
On August 2nd the 250th episode of The ITM Fishing Show will screen.
The ITM Fishing Show is in its eleventh series on New Zealand television.
